Lungelo joined Olden & Associates in October 2016 as a Senior Associate Planner and holds a Masters degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of Cape Town and a Bachelor of Technology in Town and Regional Planning from Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Prior to joining the practice, Lungelo joined the Urban Sustainability Internship Programme within the City of Cape Town Transport and Urban Development department. This experience allowed him to develop his skills within land-use management, policy and process development, and he was also actively involved in writing the municipal planning by-law. As an urban planner at Olden & Associates, Lungelo’s knowledge of and skills in these areas have been a great asset to the practice, and he contributes effectively to a wide range of projects. After working hours, Lungelo enjoys playing tennis and exercising, and relaxing with friends and family. He also loves to travel.
Michael is the owner and managing director of the practice and is involved in all projects on a daily basis. He holds a BA degree in Geography and Sports Science, a Masters degree in Town and Regional Planning, a Bachelor of Business Management and Administration (Honours), and a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA). He has in excess of 20 years of experience in the field of Urban and Regional Planning and project management, and has been actively involved in a broad range of projects in Namibia, the North West Province and the Western Cape. He is a member of the South African Planning Institute (SAPI) and served as a committee member on behalf of the South African Association of Consulting Town and Regional Planners (SACP). When not at the helm of Olden & Associates, Michael enjoys outdoor pursuits, such as trail running, canoeing and diving.
KIM DU PLESSIS
Kim is a Senior Associate Planner and Project Manager at Olden&Associates. Kim joined the Olden & Associates team in 2013 and has five years of planning experience in the private sector, including two years of town planning work in Australia. Kim holds a Masters degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of Cape Town, and has experience in statutory and strategic planning, as well as retail, commercial, residential and mixed-use development projects. Kim also has considerable experience working with local governments, which has provided her with strong communication skills and project management skills, as well as an ability to achieve development outcomes within the necessary timeframes. In her role at the practice, she has prepared rezoning applications across a range of business, residential, retail and mixed-use developments; due-diligence studies; subdivision applications; removal of restriction applications and site development plans. In her spare time, Kim enjoys hiking, trail running and yoga, and manages a small e-commerce floristry business.
Heather Kirkby joined Olden & Associates in October 2018. Heather holds a Masters Degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of Cape Town. She also holds a Bachelor of City Planning (Hons) and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and English Language and Literature from the University of Cape Town. Heather has become a valuable part of the team and her broad range of studies brings valuable and objective inputs to our multi-disciplinary projects and complex land use applications. Before joining the practice, Heather free-lanced as an urban planner and volunteered at Open Streets, where she assisted in managing this NGO’s social media profile. In her spare time, Heather practices yoga and has recently taken up bouldering. She also plays the saxophone and enjoys spending time on creative pursuits.
Anita is responsible for managing the reception area and switchboard, and provides invaluable support to our planning consultants and the accounts department by ensuring that the database and files are updated and maintained on a daily basis, and liaising with service providers. Anita also provides an integral administrative role by following up daily on land-use applications submitted to the City of Cape Town. Outside of her role at Olden & Associates, Anita enjoys time with family and friends, and plays the clarinet.
Coleen meticulously maintains the accounts and books of the practice, as well as performing many integral administrative functions, including invoicing, paying of creditors, SARS returns, salaries and debt recovery. Our longest-serving staff member, she has been with the company since 2005. Never one to lift her head from the books for long, Coleen enjoys reading in her spare time and is a dedicated grandparent to her young grandson.
We welcome Azhar Khan to Olden and Associates. Azhar is a student from Cape Peninsula University of Technology and is joining us for the duration of 2019 to undertake his in-service training as part of his degree in Town and Regional Planning. Zaheer will undertake a mentorship programme with Senior Associate Planner Lungelo Nkosi and Michael Olden, and will be involved in various projects that we are currently working on. We wish him every success, and are privileged to contribute to his career growth and welcome all the energies that he brings to Olden & Associates and in the field of urban planning.
Zaheer is a student from Cape Peninsula University of Technology and in his 3rd year of studies. Zaheer completed one year of in-service training at Olden & Associates in 2018 and continues to work part time at Olden & Associates for 2019. Zaheer has undertaken a mentorship programme with Senior Associate Planner Lungelo Nkosi and Michael Olden, and continues to be involved in various projects that we are currently working on.
